After Holiday Stupor

Christmas and all of the chaos that surrounded it for me was really great. I got to see most of my family and a lot of my friends. It was kind of a lean Christmas in terms of giving gifts but I feel like I gave everyone things that they could use rather then things that they could admire. DW and I did a lot of baking for the holidays and so many people got baskets of food. Biscotti, scones, quickbreads, regular breads and other assorted goodies. DW had lots of issues with shortbread this year so we were the only ones who got any as most of the batches were not fit for consumption by anyone else. I got lots of fun yarn/obsession related gifts which was really fun. With almost all of my Christmas knitting done now there wasn't much on the needles but as I'm cleaning up after the holiday tornado that went through the house I'm finding bits and pieces of half finished projects sitting around the house. My biggest new year's knitting goal is to finish DW's socks and his sweater, preferably before Christmas next year. I have the entire back of the sweater done and I'm about a third of the way through the front of the sweater. I think that it's going to be my spring/summer knitting so that it's done when the cold weather hits Michigan again.

In news that is totally unrelated to knitting... I have a craving for sushi that just won't go away. Some days I just curse sushi for being so damn good because I could eat sushi for 3 meals a day for a week straight and still not be sick of it. Of course I would go broke long before I got sick of sushi. I suppose at some point I should teach myself how to make sushi so that I don't go completely broke.

permanant body markings!

So those of you who have seen me since Christmas may have seen my new body art... And now that they are mostly healed I have good pictures of them! About a year ago I started talking about getting a tattoo of a red tulip to memorialize my grandmother who passed away last February. As the months went by I began to think that maybe I needed to get two tattoos at the same time. Some of this stemmed from the fact that I'm slightly queasy about needles and so I wasn't sure I could convince myself to go back if the first one creeped my out.. but the other was pain and recovery period. I figured if I went and got both at once then I would only have about a month of pain and/or discomfort versus if I got them done seperatly then there would be 2 months of pain and/or discomfort. So the day after Christmas I went in to Liquid Swordz in Ypsi and worked with Jeff for about 20 minutes to draw up a design and then we got going. I don't have any pictures from the actual tattoo parlor but it was a great expereience. Jeff was great and professional and it hurt way less then I was expecting. So without furher ado here are the pictures.

The middle of the road

So one of my New Year's resolutions is to post here roughly once a week. It has so far gone ok... But we'll see how long my resolve holds. I don't have much to show for the last couple of weeks in terms of FO but pretty soon there will be a multitude. For the moment, I find myself in the middle of the road in many things. These days I seem to have trouble finishing things. On the needles right now are a pair of Fuzzyfeet for DW, a Winter Femme Hat for my mother, a tea cozy for grandma, of my own design, and I still have a pair of Almost Argyle socks that were supposed to be a Christmas present but there was no way that I was going to get them done in time. I'm about 2/3's of the way done with the first sock and I haven't worked on it since before Christmas. Oh well.... They will be much appreciated when they are finished so I don't worry too much.

One half of the un-felted fuzzyfeet. I finished this one nearly a year ago and just never got around to casting it's mate.... I really need to get better about finishing what I start, I keep finding half finished projects tucked into corners of my stash that I completly forgot about.

One side of my tea cozy almost done. Size 8 needles, Sugar 'n Cream cotton, color "Shades of Green". The cable is from the pattern Samus at Knitty.com. I'm really happy with the way that this is turning out. The last tea cozy that I made didn't fit any of my tea pots very well and while it did keep the tea warm, it was not very attractive which was the entire reason for making it in the first place.

Well, I'm off to bed now.. I'm going to see my dad sing at the Flint Festival of Choirs tomorrow. It should be really fun, this is one of big choir festivals I used to participte in when I was in high school and the first couple of years of college. They bring in guest conductors who are well known to direct pieces that either they have written or that they choose. This year it is David Dickau who is one of my personal favorite composers. I'm really excited, it should be an excelent concert.
