FO's starting to make themselves known..

A fairly un-exciting week here in the land of my life. I've been cooking, knitting, and continuing to look for a job. On the one hand I wish I didn't have to find a job and I could just prusue my passions of knitting and cooking... but it's not to be. In my next life when I marry a millionare then perhaps I can consider it, but thats not something thats going to be able to happen here in the near future. This was my major achievement for the day:

My first foray into illusion knitting. I really love it because it's just geeky enough that I don't get bored with it but simple enough that I don't really have to watch my hands after the first one that I complete. Right now I'm working on pink ribbon washcloths.. but I think that I'm going to be in need of some robot washcloths for around the house. But I also have a long term (my own fault) project that is finished too!!! DW's fuzzyfeet are felted and all blocked out. The only thing left to do is to attach the leather slipper bottoms that I got, this of course hinges on the assumption that I can ge them off of his feet for long enough to do this.

snows a' comin

Feels like this week just flew by... Still trying to find a job, but I'm starting to get some responses to my applications which is an improvement to last week. Was in meetings most of this weekend and I'm not sure that progress was noticably made for most of the weekend... but we'll see how things go in the next couple of weeks. In the news of my kitchen, I made quiche! It turned out pretty well, considering that it was the first time I had tried it. I made a crustless quiche because I didn't want to bother with dough, since my pastry skills still leave something to be desired. But I had eggs and I needed to use up some mustard greens before they went bad.. So I used a basic quiche recipie I found somewhere online and added the following: mustard greens - 2 cups, wilted; onion and garlic - 1 medium and 5 cloves, lightly sauteed in olive oil; cheddar cheese - 2 cups, finely shredded. I kind of wish that I would have remembered the can of mushrooms that I found in the cupboard after the quiche was in the oven, but I just can't win them all.

And I topped the evening off with a lovely cup of tea. Kept nice and warm by the recently finished tea cozy. The cable pattern was really easy to memorize and by the time I got to the second half I wasn't even looking at the chart anymore. My tea is happy and so am I. Yay!

Awwwww!!!

DW got me these for Valentines Day. We went out to dinner, went to the bookstore to walk around for a bit, and then we went to the coffee shop to hang out. Capped off the night with some chocolate-covered strawberries. It was a great night all around. I felt kind of bad because I didn't have anything to give him today, but his Valentine's present was his slippers. So not only did he already know what he was getting but he was very appreciative that he got them early. We had tempatures as low as -10 here so he definatly appreciated the early gift. Now I just have to finish mine......

My feet are cold!

I can't knit fast enought to keep my feet warm. In my search for some mindless knitting I found a sock and a ball of yarn from last year that I had all but forgot about. So I whipped out my size 2 needles and cast on for the second sock. The cool thing about forgetting about the sock is that it is like starting fresh all over again. It's not the easiest way to deal with second sock syndrom but it gets the job done. The first socks that I ever knit I knit them both at the same time. Which was probably a good thing because they were grey and generally un-inspiring. But they were socks and they were hand knit by me.

This is the first sock back last March when I first finished it. My camera doesn't deal well with any kind of detail but you get the general theme. I bought the yarn shortly after Valentine's Day last year not really sure what it would turn into but knowing that I would find a pattern that I liked eventually. I ended up designing my own socks based on the Chic Knits better than chocolate pattern. I like a little bit more strech in my socks so I kept going in the 1x1 rib. The first sock fits great so I can't wait until the second one is done...

I leave you with a view out the side window of my parent's house from last winter. I was up there and it snowed overnight so I took this picture before it had a chance to get all messed up by us pesky humans...
